ART within an ART Tattoos, you either love em or hate em!I had my first tattoo when I was 21, a simple rose at the top of my arm. Having that first tattoo done set off an addiction which I still have today. I had prepared myself for the worst pain of my life as I sat in the tattoo studio sweating with fear! The tattooist was a bear of a man with a mind boggling array of tattoos covering what I could see of his upper body, I was fascinated, it was then that I knew that this tattoo wasn't going to be my last. I was stunned at the artwork that had gone into making this man a walking portrait, all the colours that you could think of were there in their full glory for all to see, so my having this tiny rose done paled into insignificance but I sat there as he started to tattoo my young skin. I was pleasantly surprised by the pain,I had envisioned tortuous pain but found it quite exhilarating a sort of searing burning pain but on the whole a good feeling. It took about ½ an hour to finish and I loved it. Tattooing is addictive and I have traveled far and wide to make sure I get the best people to do the work. My favorite tattoo artist is a Wyld Witch called ‘Poppy Palin’ who lives in Glastonbury, she did a special tattoo for me of my late father which I had put on my back, she did a fantastic job, all credit to her. In my home town of Castleford I have met 2 tattoo artists called Daz and Paddy who run the ‘Dragon’ tattoo studio on Wilson street. They are talented artists who are mainly self taught and have done a few pieces for me. Gone are the days of the ‘I love mum’ tattoos, its all fine line work and brilliant colors. At the moment I wouldn't say that I'm covered in tattoos but I do plan to have a lot more done.
Tattooing is a visionary art, one which you can only do if you are dedicated to the cause. Linda Guest.
